EXCERPTS FROM MY TRAVEL BLOG

After Cordoba was recaptured in the Reconquista by King Ferdinand III, the mosque was converted back into a Church. This was not seen since the Visigoth church once stood here at the site and before the Umayyad Moors first converted it into a mosque.

Amongst the beautiful grand arches of the old mosque, the exquisite Mehrab and the numerous symmetrically lined columns sourced from Roman temples, stood the imposing cathedral nave in the centre in all its glory. The style of the cathedral was quintessentially indicative of the Renaissance period.

The site was absolutely awe-inspiring, but within the confines one could not help but feel the tumultuous battle between the Muslim and Christian faiths that was indicative of the day.

One could not help but ponder how much the possible conversion of the mosque to a Christian church during the most active period of the Spanish inquisition, saved the site from total desolation.

In that case, the following verse would be so apt:

022:040 (Part)
"
For had it not been for God repelling some people by means of others, certainly there would have been pulled down Monasteries and Churches and Synagogues and Mosques in which God's name is much remembered; and surely God will help him who helps His cause; most surely God is Strong, Mighty”

It is significant to note that in this verse, monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques are all being equally represented and recognised as places of worship which have received Divine protection.

Yet sadly, little respect is at times shown by certain adherents of their faiths as they pillage each others places of worship in the name of religion.
